Home Brews

Just got back from visiting my brother in Charlotte, NC. My brother is an awesome brewer! His day job doesn’t do him justice and he should definately find a career in micro brewing! I am so impressed every time I try one of his brews! It is an extra treat to visit him just to get to sample them! He had a number of different brews available for my drinking pleasure on this visit. They were: Oregon Pale Ale, English Special Bitter, English Brown Ale, Old Peculiar Dark Ale and a “Blue Moon” imposter! All were excellent! My favorites had to be the Oregon Pale Ale and the English Brown Ale! I wish they were available for sale, because they would be top sellers! Anyway….I have not been as successful in my attempts to brew beer myself (I will save that for another day). I guess I should just stick to sampling and critiquing!!!

Original Budweiser?

I am definately not a “Bud Girl”. However, I just visited Prague in the Czech Republic, home of the original Budweiser. I didn’t know that up until a couple of months ago!! While I was there, I had to try the “Budvar” to see if it compared at all to the US version. Not so much!! Budvar has a thick creamy head and is much more pleasant than our American version. Why did the recipe change once it got to the US? I don’t know! But, did you know that the people in the Czech Republic drink more beer per capita than any other country in the world? Maybe my Czech background helped me be a beer lover! As far as Budweiser, while in the Czech Republic, drink it. While in America…NOT!!

World of Beer

Tonight I was out with my “Girlie Girls” at World of Beer!  What a great place!  They have over 100 (maybe 200) different varieties of beer!  There is so much to choose from,  it is kind of like shopping for that LBD!  You girls know what I mean!  Anyway, I had a couple of great beers.  One of them being Krušovice, which is from the Czech Republic.  ( I just returned from there as a matter of fact, and will have to write about it.)  I also had a Summit Extra Pale Ale.  This EPA is from St. Paul Minnesota and is quickly becoming one of my favorites!  It has a smooth, hoppy flavor and I really enjoy it!  Anyway, my “girlie girls” disappointed me.  While we were in the “World of Beer” they decided they wanted Chardonnay!  Not that I don’t love wine as well, but c’mon….we were in a beer lovers paradise!  I told them I was embarrassed to order it!  They know who they are!!!!  Yes, I admit, sometimes beer gives you that “full” feeling, but it is worth the taste!

For the love of beer….

Pretty girls like beer too!  I think it was my brother who helped me discover the taste of really good beer.  I am not talking about generic Bud or the like, but really good beer.  There are so many varieties that I have decided to make tasting different beer a real passion of mine!  So often I am in a restaurant and order a Pale Ale or the like only to have the waiter say…”Are you sure?”, “Girls don’t normally like that variety.”  Well, I don’t agree!  I know there are plenty of us “girlie girls” who appreciate a good ale or microbrew.
